Frequently asked questions
What can community access support be used for?
Social outings, appointments, shopping, sport and recreation, classes, volunteering and learning to travel independently - whatever helps you connect with your community.
Support linked to personal goals
Community access is planned around what the participant wants to achieve. Goals may include building confidence, maintaining relationships, learning travel or shopping skills, attending appointments, joining recreational activities or becoming more familiar with the local community.
Individualised activities
Support can be used for suitable social, educational, recreational and everyday activities agreed with the participant. We discuss preferred activities, timing, transport arrangements, accessibility and any support or risk-management requirements before outings take place.
Building skills and confidence
Workers provide the level of assistance the participant needs while encouraging choice and independence. This may include planning an outing, using public transport, communicating with others, handling purchases or gradually trying a new activity. Progress is guided by the participant’s pace and preferences.
